A recent TIME Lightbox gallery featured the incredible work of Mitch Dobrowner. Mitch describes his passion for landscape photography and specifically, capturing the ‘nastiest weather’ he can find.

Taking an active approach to seeking out these super-cell thunderstorms, Dobrowner describes the immense power and beauty of them, seeing the storms as living, breathing things; born when conditions are right and gaining strength as they grow, fighting to ‘stay alive’ against their environment, going through various forms and stages as they progress and eventually dying.

Check out this small selection of incredible images below and be sure to check out the full storm gallery on Time Lightbox.

Mitch Dobrowner’s official website also features more of his incredible work where you can see his fantastic landscape photography (check out his Urban series, it’s amazing!).

Landscapes are living eco systems and environments. They have existed well before, and will hopefully be here way beyond the time we are here. When taking photographs, time and space seem hard for Mitch to measure. Whenever he shoots a ‘quality’ image, he knows it. At those moments things are quiet, seem simple again – and he obtains a respect and reverence for the world that is hard to communicate through words. For Mitch these moments happen when the exterior environment and his interior world combine. Hopefully the images presented help communicate how he feels and what he sees during those times.

Mitch’s work is produced using a digital workflow. All the images presented are captured as latent images. Prints are produced using pigment inks on archival cotton rag paper.
