Located on five floors of the Renzo Piano designed Central St. Giles Building in Convent Garden, Google’s funky London headquarters were conceived by design and arhictecture studio PENSON. The quirky space comprises 160,000 square feet and features an eclectic mix of designs and British influences.
The space features 1250 desks and 1250 meeting chairs and collaboration seats and the ‘eco-design’ was just shy of receiving LEED Platinum certification. PENSON founder Lee Penson says of the space:
“It’s all about human beings and that’s it. Think sunken snugs, comfort, fun, comfy slippers, squishy carpets, cushions, daybeds, nice fresh food, gardening, vegetables, health, visual stimulation, relaxation, exercise, fresh air and you’ll get what it’s all about as a HQ.”
This sentiment can be seen in the: Granny’s flat designed area, the flower power boardroom, the incredible terraces, the padded cell meeting room and the outdoor garden space where employees can get their own IPE timber tubs to sow their seeds.
The design is in stark contrast to Google’s Engineering HQ in Victoria, London, but both spaces were designed by PENSON. It’s worth noting that the office featured below is for the sales and other non-engineering departments of Google London. It is likely that current and prospective clients are brought here and that such a unique office design will leave an impression with any guest that visits.
