Picture of the Day: The Bottom of an Iceberg

THE BOTTOM OF AN ICEBERG

In this amazing capture we see the bottom of an iceberg that just rolled over. According to Reddit user thirdfounder, this is an example of a ‘bottom berg’ where a chunk of ice has calved from the lower part of a glacier. Apparently the stunning blue color is the result of a lack of entrained air bubbles in very old and highly compressed ice. Combined with a higher content of rock flour, and this deep blue colour is achieved.

A reverse image search on Google and Tineye did not reveal an original source for this picture. If you know who the photographer is, please advise in the comments!
