In the historic photo above we see a retired LEGO mold on display at the LEGO Factory in LEGOLAND California. The mold made a staggering 120 million bricks before being decommissioned. The photograph was taken by Zane Thorn, operator of LegoGod.com, during his visit to LEGOLAND California back in August of 2008.

According to Thorn, ‘retired brick molds are embedded into the foundations of public buildings to prevent them from falling into the hands of competitors as LEGOS are produced to an extremely high specification, with only a few microns of tolerance.’

What an awesome piece of history!
