Hans Kotter is an artist from Mühldorf, Germany. In an ongoing series of artworks that study light, Kotter uses Plexiglas, colour-changing LEDs and mirrors to create pieces that seemingly go on forever.
When viewed at certain angles the artworks seem to extend infinitely, kind of like being in an elevator with mirrors on opposite sides. According to Beautiful Decay, Kotter uses color changing LED lights that shine behind a warped one way mirror. The backing mirror then duplicates the LED lights infinitely. Kotter’s piece are continually changing as the color of the lights gradually shift and as the viewer moves about the room. He also tells the Creators Project:
“No other element influences our planet more than light. Light has enchanted me because of its infinite variations and this aspect inspired me to investigate its composition and its physical contexts, the perception of colors and its cultural history. The experiences and the discoveries that derive from my investigations are then channeled into my creations.”
You can find much more of Kotter’s work on his official website. To see his most recent artwork, check out the gallery on his second website arttarget.de.
