BATKID Saves Gotham, Unites Community, Restores Faith in Humanity

5-year-old Miles Scott lives with his younger brother and parents in Tulelake, California. Miles has leukemia (currently in remission) and was told by his parents that they were all making a trip to San Francisco so he could get his very own Batkid costume.

What he arrived to instead was a city transformed into Gotham by: Make-A-Wish America, the SFPD, city officials and thousands of volunteers.

Gotham needed Miles’ help. The Riddler and Penguin were on the loose, a woman was tied to cable-car tracks and Lou Seal was kidnapped! The day culminated at City Hall where thousands gave Miles a hero’s welcome and the mayor gave him a key to the city.

The elaborate surprise united the community. The Department of Justice issued an indictment, special-edition newspapers were printed and even the President thanked Batkid for saving Gotham.
