Maskull Lasserre is a Canadian artist, born in Alberta in 1978. After spending much of his childhood in South Africa, he returned to Canada for school; receiving his BFA in Visual Art and Philosophy from Mount Allison and his MFA in Sculpture from Concordia.
Currently working out of studios in Montreal and Ottawa, Lasserre’s drawings and sculptures explore the unexpected potential of the everyday through allegories of value, expectation, and utility.
In a piece completed in 2011 entitled Secret Carpentry (27 x 6 x 2 inches), Lasserre skillfully carved a spine into the handle of an axe. The detail (seen below), is astonishing. You can find Maskull’s full portfolio on his website maskulllasserre.com.
Lasserre has an upcoming solo exhibition at Gallery Pierre-Francois Ouellette Art Contemporain in Montreal from November 30 – January 2014.
He is also part of a group exhibition at Museum Villa Rot in Burgrieden, Germany from now until February 16, 2014.
