CONTEST CLOSES JUNE 30, 2014
The 26th annual National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest is well under way, accepting submissions until June 30th, 2014. Official categories include: Travel Portraits; Outdoor Scenes; Sense of Place; and Spontaneous Moments. The grand-prize winner will receive an eight-day National Geographic Expedition to Alaska for two aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion or National Geographic Sea Bird.
The entry fee is $15 (USD) per photo, and there is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant. Judging consists of two rounds of evaluation based on creativity and photographic quality. The second-prize winner will receive a five-day National Geographic Photography Workshop for one in Santa Fe, N.M., and the third-prize winner will receive a six-day cruise for two on a Maine windjammer schooner. Seven merit-prize winners will receive a print of their photo, matted and framed by the National Geographic Imaging Lab, a $200 gift certificate to B&H Photo and “The Art of Travel Photography” course on DVD from National Geographic and The Great Courses.

1. Cub Scouts Honor
While watching her mother dive for salmon in the frigid glacier water of the Crescent River this young brown bear cub couldn’t contain her excitement and stood up on her rear legs and politely made a waving direction towards me. In a matter of one hour this young cub ate several salmon that were provided by her intelligent and fearless mother. Deep in the Alaskan wilderness this brown bear family provided my favorite image of the year. Location: Alaska-Chigmit Mountains
2. Diver in Magic Kingdom
Green Lake (Grüner See) is located Tragöss Austria. In spring snowmelt raises the lake level about 10 meters. This phenomenon, which lasts only a few weeks covering the hiking trails, meadows, trees. The result is magical to watch diving landscapes. Location: Grüner See at Tragöss – Austria
3. One eye on you
Short-eared owl in stretching and relaxing mode in Kuwait natural reserve. Location: Kuwait
4. A question of Faith
A different view of the Christ the Redeemer at the top of Corcovado, in Rio de Janeiro, appearing from a cloudy shroud. Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
5. Svalbard
The high cliffs of Svalbard drop steeply into the sea, the eroded green cliffs, remnant snow and aquamarine sea creating an abstract visual impression. Location: Svalbard
6. Huli Wigman
The Huli wigmen are traditional warriors of the Tari area in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. They grow their hair from early puberty and fashion it into the wig you see in this image. Each warrior has a different wig, with different adornments, it all depends on who you are in the tribe and what your accomplishments would have been. Location: Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
7. Baby chameleon
The photo has been taken while baby chameleon was covered himself with dry leafs for hunting. Baby chameleon took a shot to spider from his secret place. Taking this kind of shots only possible by using your cameras serial shooter. Baby chameleon has really sharp eyes which lets him to see front, and backside at same time. Adult chameleons usually live on the trees, babies are usually on dry plants. They do feed themselves by spiders, instincts, and grasshoppers. Location: Kahramanmaras Turkey
8. Above The Clouds
Dubai’s tallest buildings piercing through a dense blanket of fog that covered the city shortly before sunrise. Location: Dubai, UAE
9. AL-Marmoum Racetrack

10. Floating car
Salar de Uyuni is miracle. I was so moved of this landscape. I walked away from the car and took this photo with complete silence. Location: Uyuni, Bolivia
