In this interesting capture we see a ‘scratch circle’ or ‘Scharrkreise’, a phenomenon that occurs when strong winds bend stalks of dried dune grasses, causing them to pivot around their axis’, scratching out perfect circles in the sand.
The above photo by David Marvin was taken on the eastern shoreline of Lake Michigan last December. The above scratch circle had a diameter of about 7 inches.
