Reddit user Proteon found a luna moth’s wing earlier this week and captured some amazing close-ups using a 1951 American Optical Spencer microscope.
As the magnification gradually increases you can see the incredible texture and complexity of the moth’s wing. The luna moth (Actias luna) is a lime-green, Nearctic Saturniid moth in the family Saturniidae, subfamily Saturniinae. It has a wingspan of up to 114 mm (4.5 in), making it one of the largest moths in North America. [source]
