This Is What Those Pinky Promise Rings Really Mean

You’ve probably noticed the pinky rings that a lot of women are sporting these days with an inverted triangular stone.

And you’ve probably heard of promise rings before, but these rings are different.

A jewelry company called Fred + Far started the pinky promise ring movement and it’s all about self-love and has nothing to do with whether a woman is in a relationship or not.

Melody Godfred, one of the founders of Fred + Far, said she created the ring as a reminder to take care of herself during her everyday life.

In an interview, Godfred said,

“I chose to create the ring for my pinky because it is a finger I’ve never worn a ring on before. It is as overlooked as women can be in their own lives.

It felt very powerful to me to take a traditional symbol of commitment to someone else (big bold engagement rings) and say, ‘This time, I’m choosing myself.’

I still wear my engagement ring proudly, and these two rings are not mutually exclusive. Because loving yourself, makes you better able to love someone else.”
