‘I pretended I forgot something and went to look for her wallet.’ Woman Brings Her Guest’s “Forgotten” Wallet So She Couldn’t Get Out Of Paying Her Share

Everyone runs into this person at some point in their lives – the one who is always ready to go out to eat, but who never seems to remember their wallet.

It’s usually on accident (or if it’s not, it’s an agreed-upon inside joke), but what if it’s not?

OP’s sister-in-law always stays with them when she visits, and she always makes reservations at expensive restaurants.

For whatever reason, she’s decided OP makes enough money to cover the bills, so she never brings her wallet.

My (f28) SIL “Amy” (f26) always comes to visit from out of town. She stays with us instead of a hotel, and always wants to go to expensive restaurants.

She always conveniently forgets her wallet, or comes up with some excuses as to why she can’t pay her share.

She has implied that since I make much more money than her, I should be the one to pay (no, not my husband should pay, but me specifically).

I do make a fair amount of money, but not so much that I can treat someone every time they come into town.

Nonetheless, in the past, I have just paid the bill and asked her to pay me back.

She never has.

So this time, OP made sure to grab her wallet on the way out, since she had told her SIL that she would not be paying for her meal that night.

She had made a reservation at an extremely expensive restaurant last night, and before we left, I made it clear that I wouldn’t be paying her bill.

This is where I might be the jerk, and I’ll admit I got this move straight from and episode of Two and a Half men.

As we were leaving, her and my husband went to the car. I pretended I forgot something and went to look for her wallet.

I found it sitting on top of her suitcase.

I put it in my purse and we went to the restaurant.

When her SIL tried to pull the same thing that night, OP produced the wallet.

When we were done eating, I asked for separate bills.

She said no, we need one bill, because she “forgot” her wallet again. I reached in my purse and said, “this wallet?”

She was extremely furious. She said that I should not have touched or grabbed her wallet.

So AITA for taking her wallet and bringing it to the restaurant?

SIL was angry, saying she shouldn’t have touched her things

The top commenter says OP should have gone even farther.

People wish they could have been flies on the wall.

This suggestion sure would have been funny.

And this person has some stern words for the husband, too.

Maybe OP should even turn the tables.

This is a fun little story.

10/10, would read again.
