When your kids are in school, you often have to fill out a love of forms and permission slips to ensure they can take part in everything.
When this mom was going through the forms for her two 14-year-old boys, she noticed something new, and she is mad.
She made a video, which starts out with her saying, “So, I actually, for the first time in a while, had to put my phone down to make a video, because I was starting to shake as I recorded. So, I have 14-year-old twin boys, I dropped them off at our town’s public high school for the first time on Wednesday.”
Starting school is always exciting and nerve-racking.

Moments later, she says, “Can we talk about this?”
She holds up a yellow form from the school. She then goes on, “This came home in my 14-year-old son’s bag in the plethora of paperwork that we have to fill out every year, like this is a thing, we’ve had to do it every year.”
Yup, filling out paperwork is annoying, but necessary.
Then she gets to the problem. She reads one of the forms, it says, “To parents and guardians, a new law has been passed that all school districts must release to military recruiters the name, address, and phone number of all junior and senior students.”
I’m not sure that this is new. Young men have always had to register for the draft when they turn 18, and schools have always let military recruiters in.

She is clearly upset about this, and goes on to say, “The notification advises that in the event that they fail to complete and return this form to school, all requests for information by the military will be honored.”
Ahh, that is annoying. The school is making parents opt out rather than opt in.

I can see why she would be upset about that, but I’m not sure this is anything new. She ends the video by saying, “What the **** is this. Please tell me that I’m not the only parent that is highly concerned.”
Honestly, it seems like she may be overreacting. This type of thing has always happened in schools.
If it is something new, it is just an adjustment to existing laws.

The people in the comments are definitely on her side. Check them out.
This person has kids in a private school, and she did not get this form.
Here is someone who says his kids won’t be fighting in wars.
Here is someone who says they do need to fill it out to opt out.
Is she freaking out over nothing?
