If you were around in the 1980s and 1990s, you undoubtedly had or knew someone who had a waterbed, but they quickly fell out of fashion to the point that most young adults today have never even heard of them.

One young TikToker learned about them and wanted to share some facts about them with her audience. Her facts about waterbeds quickly went viral.

Her video begins with her saying, “Have you looked up facts about waterbeds yet today? If you haven’t, I have some for you so that might save you the trouble from Googling it.”

Is this something people are researching?

She goes on, “Waterbeds were so popular in the 1970s and 1980s, out of every five beds that were sold, one was a waterbed. Each waterbed weighed between 1500 and 2000 pounds.”

Yeah, they were very heavy.

She explains why this was important, “So, it noted that if you are going to have it upstairs, think about it. And then think about it again. And then do that like 400 times because if you have it upstairs and you put all the water in it, you can’t just move it, you have to drain all the water out before moving it.”

But that’s not the worst part. “Also, are your floors heavy enough for that? I’m going to actually look that up after this to see disasters with waterbeds because that sounded riveting.”

Yeah, some people had their beds crash right through the floor of their rooms.

There were, of course, some great benefits to waterbeds. She says, “Heaters, each bed you could just heat the water in it to make it warmer. That was cool, I didn’t know that.”

Yeah, without a heater, you would be WAY too cold to sleep.

Then she said, “They didn’t have mites or bedbugs or anything like that because it wasn’t like a mattress.”

Yeah, they couldn’t survive on just the plastic or rubber that held the water in, and the sheets were washed regularly.

Waterbeds really were very cool, and apparently, you can still find them today. She ends her video by saying, “I hope this helped you. I hope this saved you the trouble from Googling facts about waterbeds today.”

As a child of that era, I definitely remember waterbeds, though I never had one.

They were definitely very popular, and lots of people loved them.

Lots of people watched this video and had a lot to say about it.

This person’s parents had a waterbed.

Yikes, cats could claw right into a waterbed.

They really did last a long time.

Who knew you could still get waterbeds today?
