Some friend groups are meant to last, but others… not so much.
So, what would you do if a member of your friend group accused you of being annoying on purpose and told you to change so they can feel comfortable?
Would you change for them to accept you? Or would you refuse to change for anyone?
In the following story, one person finds themselves in this scenario and has no interest in changing for anyone.
Here’s what’s going on.
AITA for not wanting to change myself because of a friend group?
There’s this group of friends that I’m in. I’m not friends with all of them, and there’s this guy… Let’s call him Henry. Henry doesn’t like me. He says that I bother him on purpose, and that in every game he plays with me and the rest of the group, I go after him to bother him.
But I don’t notice myself doing it and treat everyone just as I treat my friends. I try to keep a good relationship with everyone.
Today, he came to me while I was on a Minecraft server and said that I bothered him for the reasons I already listed.
He told Henry that he could leave the server.
I said that I didn’t notice doing everything, but he laughed and affirmed again.
I just said that if he wanted, he could just block me and stop interacting, or leave the server, since no one was forcing us to play.
He denied the offer and said he had hope for me to get better and change.
Now, he’s considering just leaving the friend group.
I don’t interact with him outside of when we’re playing with my friends, because I’m not willing to change for someone I don’t talk to just to make him comfortable.
He doesn’t have any interest in befriending me, so why should I bother with such a thing? Now I’m planning to just leave the group since I only have 3 friends in it.
Im not really comfortable in the group since some months ago, when I came out for being nonbinary, with the name I was more comfortable being called by some of them, including Henry, who made fun of me.
AITA?
Eek! It’s easy to see why they feel this way.
Let’s see what the people over at Reddit think.
This person is just happy he’s human.
Great advice.
Here’s a good point.
This person would shut him down.
He needs new friends, because those guys are not his true friends.
