Imagine having a prosthesis, but you have learned to walk so well that most people don’t even know unless you tell them. Would you park in handicap parking spots, or would you park in regular parking spots?

In this story, one employee is in this situation and parks in a handicap parking spot at work. Drama ensues when a police officer tells him to move his car.

Keep reading for all the details.

“You don’t look handicap enough to park there”

One day I was working the floor, and because of my handicap (I have a Prosthesis) I park in the handicap spot infront of my job.

During a busy day, I was talking to a fellow coworker and my supervisor, in comes embarassed cop, EC for him, ME for me.

EC: Sir, I would need you to move your car from the handicap spot.

He insisted that he had the right to park there.

ME:But I have a right to use it.

EC: You walk just fine for me, you don’t need it. So please move your car.

ME: I have a prosthesis. (The supervisor and my coworker told the EC the same, as they both have seen it and know I have it)

EC: Please move your car.

He proved his point.

ME: -I slightly bend over and pull up my pant leg, and lo and behold, the shiny part of my metal from my prosthesis gets shown-

EC: Oh I am so sorry! I did not know! I am so sorry! -EC continues apologizing as he leaves the building-

Both my co-worker and my supervisor told me I should get his name earlier and just make a complaint, I said no, he just didn’t know because I walk so normal, we all had a laugh about it and resumed working.

🙂 Moral of the story, if someone is parked in the handicap, whether they be young or old, some might look normal at first, but don’t judge them immediately. Some people barely even notice I have a Prosthesis.

It is a good lesson to not judge anyone. You never know if they have a disability that you aren’t aware of.

I don’t think I’d say this to a police officer.

This person thinks he should listen to his boss.

Not all disabilities are visible.

One person shares a story about his dad.

He handled that well!
