There is a person in my life that I routinely converse with.
They have a minor speech impediment, a stammer.
They are very sensitive to being interrupted, so I avoid doing so.
Even when I know the words they are going for, I do not interrupt.
We have had this conversation before, and that is what they prefer.
This man’s friend would interrupt him while he was talking.
Lately, I have noticed that they do not extend the same courtesy to me.
We will be talking. I will be telling them about something I have read or something that happened during my day.
Then, they just jump in mid-sentence.
Sometimes, it is relevant. Other times, it is a complete non sequitur.

He did not finish his story, and his friend got annoyed.
The last time this happened, I simply stopped.
I did not even finish the sentence that they interrupted.
After they finished cooing over the cat, I did not continue.
I felt that they were completely checking out.
They seemed more annoyed than apologetic.
