Imagine living in a duplex, and your next door neighbors in the duplex are mechanics. If they parked their customers’ cars in the yard in front of your house, would this bother you, or would you mind your own business?
In this story, one married couple is in this exact situation, and they’re pretty upset about it. Talking to the neighbors doesn’t seem to help, and they’re not sure what else to do.
Let’s read all about it.
AITA ?My neighbors don’t believe in personal space and I don’t know if I’m in the wrong.
I (f 23) and my husband (m 22) live in a duplex and we’ve been living here for about 2 years.
Our neighbors (both are males) are mechanics. We get along really well no bad blood but the issue is their cars.
Sometimes customers will bring their cars to their house, which is no big deal. The thing is we don’t have a lot of space for parking.
So when their customers bring their car to fix it or someone is coming to visit them, they park the cars in our side. Meaning in out front yard or right in front of the building blocking us from entering our house or parking in general.
The neighbors’ solution was not an improvement.
One thing about our building it only has one main entrance then inside it splits off to our main home doors.
I have spoken to them about this may times before in the past, just letting them know if they can just park their car on their side.
They have say they will but in the recent months they have been parking their/ customers cars in our back yard!
We can’t even have people over or have a cook out because our back yard is full of cars/car parts.
She’s very frustrated with this problem.
Our side of our front and back yard was full of grass and wild flowers when we first moved in.
But now it just looks like a monster jam stadium from how much they just drive over our yard.
I spoke to them again about it and again they said they won’t do it again.
I feel like they don’t take me seriously because maybe I’m younger ? Or maybe because they don’t see the issue? I don’t know but I want to know what I should do.
Assuming they’re renting, maybe talking to the landlord would help. Perhaps there could be a new rule that you can’t park in certain areas or can only have so many cars at one time per tenant.
Let’s see how Reddit responded to this story.
Here’s a vote for talking to the landlord.
Another person suggests contacting the landlord or the city.
Everyone seems to think the landlord is the person who could help.
But if they aren’t renting, a fence might help.
A yard is not a parking lot.
