Hey, I’m all for helping out someone I used to be in a relationship with

To a degree.

You also have to factor in how much time has passed since you broke up and what they’re asking from you.

In today’s story, a man explained why he’s not too crazy about the idea of helping his ex with her request….after they’ve been done for 5 years.

Take a look at what he had to say.

AITA for not helping my ex move her grandma’s furniture out of my house?

“I bought a house 6 years ago and the grandma of my girlfriend at the time had old furniture (a couple patio chairs, a night stand, an old coffee table, a tiny dresser, and a beer pong table) sitting around in storage in her basement so she offered them to me for my new house.

A year later, we broke up.

Really?

Now, 5 years after that, my ex and her cousin are texting me and telling me (not asking me) that they are coming to get it back.

First off, I find it ridiculous that this is happening now and not 5 years ago.

Secondly, I find it ridiculous that they are being so rude about it.

If it was so important, why didn’t they take it when we broke up? Or shortly after?

I have mentioned all of these things to them.

The responses back have just been rude and condescending.

Come grab it if you want it!

I don’t feel I am obligated to give it back, but regardless, I said they can have my ex’s brother come pick it up with his truck but that I’m not moving stuff around in my schedule to accommodate, nor am I helping carry any of it out.

AITA?”

And this person had a lot to say.

That’s kind of a weird request, don’t you think?

Who waits this long to ask for something like this?

Very strange, indeed…

He’s pretty ticked off about this whole thing…
