Listen, not everyone is a skilled driver.
And, for some folks, parking can be a real challenge.
Now, with that being said, expecting someone to park on a street and NOT in a spot because someone else can’t get their parking talents in order is pretty outrageous.
That’s what this woman is dealing with and she explained why her friend’s parking woes are causing her a headache.
Read on and see what you think.
WIBTA for parking in my parking spot?
“I (34,nb) live in an apartment building where two good friends of mine also have units. This is normally great, except for one thing: I own half of a car.
My mom lives about 8 blocks away from me, and because we live so centrally neither of us needs a car all the time.
Makes sense…
So we went in together on a compact SUV, and we switch who has the car based on schedules and such. I would say I have the car around a third of the time.
This means that my parking spot at my building is often empty when my mom has the car. It turns out that my friend Georgia (30-ish f) has been assigned the spot next to me, and this is where it gets frustrating.
Because my spot is vacant so often, she doesn’t really bother trying to park in the centre of her spot, and instead usually parks either on the line or actually six inches into my spot.
Everyone has their flaws…
She is a great person – funny, smart, a lot of fun to hang out with. But it turns out she is terrible at parking.
When Georgia parks in my spot, it’s challenging to park, but I can technically manage to squeeze my car in – it’s just that I’m either so close to Georgia’s car that she’ll never be able to open her driver’s side door, or so close to the minivan on the other side that I can’t get of my car.
So usually I just park on the street. But I’d like to be able to use my spot. So I’ve texted Georgia a few times over the last few months, being like, “Hey, your car is edging into my spot, can you move it so I can park?”
And she always says she’ll move it the next time she goes out, along with some excuse for why the car is parked over the line … like (the first time I pointed this out) that she thought the spot was vacant and it didn’t matter.
This is quite a bit of drama about parking!
Then it was because there was a pile of snow and ice between her and the next car that made it too difficult to park properly. Then she had an anxiety attack while parking.
Then it’s because the person parked next to her is parking over the line. Every time, the reason is punctuated with, “And you barely use your spot anyway.”
But it’s still my spot. And when I want to use it, it should be available for me.
Their friend sounds a bit immature…
I also don’t like having to text to tell her to move, because that means I have to find street parking, text her, wait for her to move, and then move my car into my spot. Instead of just being able to park
So I’ve been considering just parking there. But of course, if I do this, I will be parked so close to Georgia’s car that she will be unable to get into her driver’s side door without climbing over her centre console or texting me to move my car.
I’m worried that would make me passive aggressive and a jerk because I’m preventing her from getting into her car, and I really can just park on the street.”

Her friend needs to act like an adult and learn how to park her car between two straight lines.
It’s really not that hard!
Grow up, people!
This parking situation is turning into quite a dilemma…
