A Homeowner Wanted To Confront His Neighbors Over Parking Near His Driveway — Reddit Said He Was Overreacting

Cul-de-sac living comes with its fair share of shared space friction.

One homeowner has spent the past year annoyed by his neighbor’s monthly family gatherings, where guests consistently park near the entrance to his driveway instead of using the neighbor’s own spacious one.

Nothing blocks him entirely, it’s more of a maneuvering annoyance than an actual obstruction. The neighbor even acknowledged it once, unprompted, promising to tell his mom to park properly.

But still bothered a year later, he found himself debating whether to bring it up again or just let it go.

Redditors didn’t hold back with their feedback. Read on.

AITA – For talking to my neighbors about street parking

My biggest peeve in neighborhood living is people would park in the street!

I live in a cul-de-sac, and with my neighbor directly across the street from me, we are right at the end of the straightaway before it curves into the actual cul-de-sac.

Everyone in our street has a driveway that fits 4-6 cars, plus a two car garage.

But one homeowner grows fed up with how constantly busy the street is — and they have one complaint in particular.

Our neighbor across the street from us is notorious for having monthly family parties where 4ish cars will come over. Nothing crazy in regards to quantity, and I honestly don’t care if they threw a rager every week.

What irks me is that no one parks in their driveway but will line the entrance to my driveway, or directly at the end of my driveway along the opposite side of the street.

They do this for any family event, or even if the grandparents were to come over to babysit, which happens at least once a week.

Our neighbor made a comment to us right after we first moved in a year ago that he needs to tell his mom to park in his driveway and not directly at the end of ours.

Now the homeowner is wondering if confrontation is the right way to go.

WIBTA if I brought this up to them casually, or even offered to have his family park in my longer driveway when having an event?

It just makes it difficult to pull in and out and maneuver, and it just annoys me at this point.

We are both young families that recently moved in and are not leaving for a few decades! Ha.

What do I do? Say something, or suck it up?

Oh boy.

This user bravely goes against the grain.

Nobody’s driveway is actually getting blocked here. Cars sitting near the end of it are annoying, sure, but annoying and actually a problem aren’t the same thing.

Pushing this further over something that isn’t even an actual obstruction starts to look less like a fair ask and more like someone who’s decided to be bothered no matter what.

This one’s probably better left alone.
