A Bride Refused to Move Her 10-Year Anniversary Wedding Off Her Sibling’s Birthday—Triggering Family Chaos

Wedding dates carry weight, which is part of what makes planning such a delicate matter.

One woman has spent almost ten years with her partner, and choosing their actual anniversary as a wedding date felt like honoring a big milestone. Her mom seemed genuinely happy about it at first.

But that support quickly turned into complaints behind her back, all centered on the wedding date landing just two days before her younger brother’s birthday.

Now brothers are getting looped in, pressure is mounting, and a milestone a decade in the making is suddenly being framed as an act of selfishness.

Keep reading for the full story.

AITA for wanting to have my wedding 2 days before my brothers birthday?

I’ve (27F) been with my fiancé (27M) happily for almost ten years, and we’ve been discussing wedding plans.

This bride was always very forthcoming about her scheduling considerations.

A while back, I mentioned to my mum that I wanted to get married on mine and my partner’s ten year anniversary, because that date has meant everything to us for a decade and I couldn’t imagine our anniversary changing.

She seemed supportive and excited in the conversation and genuinely happy for us.

But soon planning hits a huge snag.

The issue is she’s now spoken to my brothers about how upset she is with me because our anniversary is two days before my little brother’s birthday (he’s the favourite).

For context, our anniversary is on a Saturday, his birthday is the Monday.

She’s been telling them that I’m selfish for not considering his birthday and moving our wedding plans.

Neither the bride nor the groom understands her point of view, but when they try to talk to her, it doesn’t go well.

We’re only having a tiny wedding with friends and family, and my partner has said “well, we’re only going to get married once,” but I kind of feel like an AH for upsetting her.

I spoke to her this weekend and kind of lashed out. She was at the same event my other brother was at when he told me about what she’d been saying and feeling, and I told her how annoyed I was that me getting married was being made to be all about her and her feelings.

Now the rest of the family is getting involved.

Now my brothers are all saying to just move the wedding so my little brother can have his day.

But in my mind, he could just celebrate his actual birthday, and I could still have the wedding date of my dreams.

AITA?

Seems like entitlement runs in the family.

What did Reddit have to say?

This user doesn’t think a birthday two days later is an acceptable excuse to throw a wrench in the plans.

Some people just like to make up their own problems.

This family needs to either stop causing unnecessary drama or just not bother attending at all.

Who says two special events can’t occur on the same day?

Ten years of history doesn’t get erased by a two-day gap on a calendar.

A birthday and a wedding anniversary can exist in the same week without either one canceling the other out.

The world isn’t going to end, and if her family really thinks it’s that big of a deal, they need to get a grip.

Her wedding, her choice. That’s not up for debate.
