When you own a small business, it’s a much bigger deal when someone shoplifts than if you work at one of many retail locations of a big corporation.
What would you do if you were a small business owner and someone tried to shoplift from your store? Would you try to stop them, call the police, or let them get away?
In this story, one man is in this situation, and he chases the shoplifter. Then the FBI showed up and told him just how impressed they were with how he stopped the shoplifter from getting away.
It is pretty impressive. Keep reading for all the details.
The time my dad chased a shoplifter and kicked his butt.
Now this story is from when I was still in my mom’s belly, and my mom and dad owned their coffee shop.
Their coffee shop was pretty popular in the area, and they also had a small ice cream counter and a cooler with soda and beer in it.
Well one day, at about 11AM, some tweaker looking dude walks in and immediately walks over to the beer cooler. He sizes up my mom and dad, opens the cooler. Grabs a 24 pack, and hauls it out the store.
Not so fast!
Now realize that this shop was my parents lively hood. They were a mom and pop shop. No corporate funding. So if someone stole, it came directly out of their pockets.
So my dad, with his amazing split second thinking, grabbed a can of brake fluid and chases the guy out the door.
He followed him down the block and into an alley.
The guys turns around, drops the beer, and runs at my dad.
This is intense!
Well my dad just so happens to have been a pretty decent baseball pitcher back in his younger days.. And that can of brake fluid… Yep. My dad nails the guy with it right between the eyes.
He said he heard a crack from the guy’s face.
Well this tweaker, is slowed and stunned, but still coming forward. He swings at my dad, who then ducks and picks this frail tweaker up by his thighs wrestling style, and slams him down onto the rough pavement.
My dad said he was so angry that he grabbed the brake fluid can to hit the guy again, but right as he raised his hand, these 2 guys in suits stop him.
It gets even better!
These two FBI agents were on a coffee break and heading to my mom and dad’s shop when they saw my dad chasing this shoplifter out of the shop. They had to drive down and make a U-Turn, and got to the other side of the alley right before my dad threw the brake fluid. They saw the whole thing play out and asked my dad if he wanted to press charges.
He said no, but the two agents still arrested the tweaker because he had a warrant.
They came back later for coffee and told my dad how intense that was, and told him that they’ve never seen someone kick butt that hard. They told everyone at their precinct and I guess after that agents would always come by to get coffee and meet my dad. He built up some street cred with them, I suppose xD
My dad has lead an interesting life. He could write a book.
Wow! That was good timing that the FBI agents saw the whole thing and arrested the guy.

It’s too bad people are like this.
Not many retail workers would be brave enough (or dumb enough) to chase a shoplifter, but I guess it’s different when you’re a small business owner. He certainly taught that guy a lesson, and the FBI showed up at the perfect time.
That’s certainly a story they’ll never forget!
