When kids are bullied at school, it can often leave them feeling like they must have done something wrong to deserve the negative treatment.

That was the case with the young man in this story, and now that he is finally changing to a new school to try to escape the mistreatment, he is wondering if he is the problem.

From the details of the story, it does not seem like he has done anything wrong, and certainly has no reason to feel guilty. Read through the full story for yourself and see if you agree.

AITA for leaving my school?

I (13M) Recently I left my school because of some personal issues and the fact that I had a history of people bullying me, but I am here to talk about if I’m the jerk in a situation.

Kids can be cruel sometimes.

I went to a school named Belvedere and I loved this school up until 2024 of December where I started to wonder if I would escape and leave this damnation.

Why? Because the students are absolutely horrible, you could enter school and they wouldn’t do anything but just argue and sometimes fight and say some horrendous stuff.. and I was not mentally prepared for this..

Kind of odd bullying.

As the years went on the students would try to annoy me in a lot of ways including calling me gay and a lover of Isreal (For context I am a Muslim and when they say lover of Isreal I was beyond shocked) and they would do it relentlessly and this had a toll on my mental health.

It got to the point where I doubted myself if it was all my fault and maybe I should let them do whatever they want to me because it’s a “punishment” that I thought I deserved and I hated myself in school.. and the worst part was that teachers didn’t do a lot as they said they’ll fix it but they don’t.

The teachers really should take this type of thing more seriously.

But in Year 7 to 9 I was nearly done..

As these students would either steal stuff from me or break stuff and they would have pens and rulers and other stuff and would use them to touch my butt and they would squeeze my nipples and I thought I deserved it because over months I’ve grown used to it.

It is sad that he felt this way.

It felt so normal but to my friends eyes, this felt like it was torture.

And I didn’t realise until now where during the second term I went to the new school for an interview and entrance exam, but during the interview I was a bit scared because I was just so used to the fact that someone would either yell something random at me or would hit me for no reason.

He didn’t do anything wrong.

And I feel like a jerk. I feel like I was nothing and just a weak boy who wouldn’t fight back so that students would have a great time but at the same time I feel like it was the right choice.

AITA?

He didn’t do anything wrong, but it is not uncommon for victims to feel some type of guilt even when things aren’t their fault.

It is sad because he has done nothing wrong, but still feels a sense of guilt. Hopefully, his new school will be a better experience for him.

Bullying is a serious problem, and sometimes the only real way to escape it is to switch schools entirely.
