Imagine owning multiple cats that have access to your rooftop garden. What would you do if one of your cats snuck over to your neighbor’s rooftop garden and broke something? Would you leave the mess for the neighbor to find, leave a not offering to replace what the cat broke, or talk to the neighbor about it in person?

In this story, one woman is in this situation, and she chose to leave a note. Now, she’s feeling anxious about it and wondering if it would’ve been better to wait and talk to the neighbor in person.

AITA for not going talking to my next door neighbors about the issue?

I live in a flat where I have my own roof garden and also my neighbors have their own.

Before moving in, my sister was staying next door so the wall dividing our kitchen balcony and stairs to our roof-garden were removed.

Since moving out we placed a wall to divide it again.

Cats are hard to contain.

I have 3 cats that were free to roam to both roof garden before (not in my sister’s flat).

Since, cats are cats, the wall didn’t stop them but I took every measure I could to stop them.

I put up a fence to block them, even plastic spikes.

One cat still manages to go over to the neighbors.

Uh-oh!

We had a 3 day weekend recently and noticed that this cat broke something from their roof garden and was bringing me pieces of glass.

I couldn’t see or understand what he broke.

Since the neighbors were away since Thursday night, I left them a note to apologize for the mess and I will still be working to find a way to solve the issue. I also let them know that I can replace what he broke with either a new item or money and noted my phone number to give me a call if they want to.

It’s been a couple of days but they haven’t reached out.

She’s pretty stressed out about the situation.

I have social anxiety and rarely talk with people I don’t know so knocking on their door is not something I can do easily.

At this point I can assume that they don’t care about what he broke or they are really ticked off with the situation.

During this weekend I will be working with someone to block off one area that the cat is able to go over and hopefully it will solve the issue.

AITA for not talking to my neighbors and just leaving the situation as is?

If the neighbors are concerned, they can call her. If they don’t respond, they probably don’t think it’s a big deal.

It’s fair enough to suggest she needs to keep the cats inside all the time, but as far as the note goes, I don’t think she did anything wrong. Either the neighbors are still on vacation and haven’t seen the note yet or they saw it and didn’t think it was a big deal. I’m sure the neighbors don’t secretly hate her. If they were upset about whatever broke, they would contact her.
