School can be boring for some students, and it can be hard to concentrate, but you have to do your best.

What would you do if you were reading a fiction book in class, and when your teacher caught you, he took it away and told you that you were never allowed to read in his classroom?

That is what happened to the student in this story, so when the teacher assigned reading a chapter to them, she refused to do it, claiming that she wasn’t allowed. Instead, she just kept finding ways to annoy the teacher and the class until he gave her the book back.

She should have gotten a detention or other punishment for being a disruption in the classroom, but instead she was allowed to stay. Read the full story below and see what you think should have happened.

I am not allowed to read in class? Okay, challenge accepted.

This was in sixth grade, in Germany, and in my school, things are a lot more civil than in your average American school.

It can be hard to concentrate in class.

I had (and still have) ADHD, and although I took (and still take) medication, quite a high dose actually, I still get bored incredibly fast in classes, and always had something to fidget with.

We had this one teacher who taught geography. He had a very weird way of speaking, sometimes he jokingly referred to the toilet as “refreshment center”, just to give you a taste of what he was like (this was in Germany mind you, do what he said sounded even weirder).

You can’t just read a book for entertainment in class.

His lessons were incredibly BORING, and despite writing excellent exams, he still wanted me to pay attention.

Well, one day I borrowed a new book from the small school library. Of course, I then sat in class, reading my book.

Ok, this was inappropriate of the teacher.

That is the moment he grabs my book and throws it out the open window. Yep, he just did that – we were in the third floor, for context. Then he tells me to not read in his lessons ever again. I went out to get the book, which he then took from me when I returned.

Which is when the gears in my head start turning. So, the moment he told us to read something in our geography book, I just took out my graphing calculator, a trusty TI-84+ that we got at the beginning of the year, and started to play Pac-Man.

This is not a good hill to die on.

When asked why I wasn’t doing what he said, I told him that he told me to not read in his class ever again. He answered: “Well, but I didn’t tell you to play Pac-Man either”. Which was a pretty good comeback, I have to admit.

Anyways, he also took away my calculator. Now I said I always had something with me to fidget with, and today, it was an infinite cube toy. Now I could fidget with that silently, but I decided to make as much noise as possible, just to annoy him.

The teacher should just send her to the office for being disruptive.

And so it did. Not even one minute after the clickety-clacker started, he took away the cube, and told me to do my work. Which I still did not do.

By coincidence, our classroom had some older chairs with those metal legs with which you could swing back and forth, and in our room there were a few which would squeak if you would swing in just the right way.

I have a very hard time believing any teacher would give in like this.

And obviously, as I was bored as heck and had very little respect for that teacher, I did just that. Eventually, he gets so annoyed he just gives me back my stuff, and for the rest of the lesson, I continue to perfect my Pac-Man technique.

Now, this might seem unnecessarily cruel or annoying, but I had the feeling that this teacher did really not like me, and I didn’t either.

The teacher could have, and should have, called the parents.

Also, keep in mind that this was five years ago. In retrospect, I am a bit ashamed for what I did, and have respect for that teacher not just calling my parents (who would’ve sided with the teacher).

Anyways, although it isn’t your usual big malicious compliance story, I hope I could still make you chuckle a bit.

Kids often think that they are being more influential than they are. The teacher could have easily just sent her to the office. If he really gave everything back, I have to believe there was more to the story.

Any medication can have unwanted side effects, but they can still be beneficial.

A good teacher would have just sent her straight to the office for being disruptive. There is no reason to have a student like that in class, but some teachers are very easy-going.

She is making it more difficult for the other students to learn, which is not fair to them.
