Well, this place sounds like a complete mess…

Which is a real shame!

Because summer camp is supposed to be a fun time that everyone involved will look back on with fond memories.

But not this camp…

Summer camp experience.

“The summer camp I worked at works with disabled people and offers day and overnight camps.

The only training they offer to staff is a 5 day orientation week where they go over the basics. They also do not have any professional healthcare personnel on camp or any other professional that has experience with disabilities.

This doesn’t sound good…

They hire inexperienced teenagers do to a job that is way too difficult even for people with years of experience. The working hours are from 7 am to 10 pm daily with only 1 day off per week.

Phone usage is strictly prohibited. They offer no support or help to staff in these conditions.

Wow!

One of my coworkers got bitten on his hand by one of the campers and when he was contacting management for help covering medical bills his supervisor got mad at him asking him if his hand is really in pain how can he be on his phone typing all of these out and that she had offered sufficient help to him and he should stop worrying about it.

The only help she offered was to ask “are you ok?”.

He asked for an ice patch and she said “sorry, we don’t have any” so he borrowed one from a coworker to which our supervisor replied “how dare you take the ice from a coworker and not from our office or kitchen?”

Even though she herself said there wasn’t any in the office or kitchen” female staff receive unwanted attention from the campers and are told to ” live with it” they are putting the staff and the campers at risk by not employing enough experienced professionals who know how to deal with disabilities.”
