Good neighbors should try to avoid making everyday parking more difficult for each other.
The following story is about a man who noticed his neighbor repeatedly parking partly across his driveway.
At first, he assumed it was temporary, but the parking started happening several times a week.
Although he could still get his car out, the situation became awkward enough that he wondered whether he should finally say something.
How would you deal with this situation? Let’s take a closer look!
My neighbour keeps using my driveway like it’s a shared space
My neighbour has started parking partly across my driveway.
At first, I assumed it was just a one-off thing because they were unloading something.
Then, it happened again.
Now, it’s happening a few times a week.
This man hasn’t said anything yet to his neighbor.
They usually leave enough room for me to get my car out.
But it still makes getting in and out awkward, especially when someone else is parked on the street.
I haven’t said anything yet because I don’t want to start some stupid neighbour feud over a few feet of driveway.
But I’m also wondering how long you’re supposed to ignore something before you actually say something.
He’s unsure as to how to deal with it moving forward.
Would you just knock on their door and ask them to stop?
Or leave it alone since they’re technically not blocking the driveway completely?
OP has a valid point. It’s his driveway, so it seems reasonable to politely mention it before the situation turns into a genuine neighbor feud.
The fact that the driveway remains technically usable doesn’t mean he has to accept the inconvenience several times a week.
Perhaps the neighbor isn’t aware of the hassle it causes, so letting them know is absolutely justifiable.

This one chimes in too.
Here’s a valid point.

This makes sense, too.

A few feet of driveway can still become a frustrating problem.
