His Principal Threatened to Harm Him—So He Hit Back and Never Returned to School

Corporal punishment used to be a very common thing in schools, and while it is frowned upon now, it did produce results.

The grandfather in this story went to school where the principal would use a stick to hit the back of the knees of students when they got in trouble, which seems quite extreme.

One day, however, when the grandfather got in trouble and the principal told him to assume the position to get hit, he told the principal that he would hit back. The principal smacked him, and grandpa punched him in the face. He then dropped out of school and never went back.

It is really hard to blame grandpa for doing what he did. Read through the full story below and see if you agree.

Why my grandfather dropped out of High School.

So, this story belongs to my grandfather (RIP).

Catholic schools can be great, but not always.

When my grandfather was growing up, he was raised Catholic. He ended up going to a Catholic High School where the Priest/Principal would punish students harshly.

His favorite punishment was to make the student grab their ankles and he’d hit the student on the back of the knees with a yardstick. If the student fell over, they had to do it again.

No surprise that he is going to get in trouble for this.

So, my grandfather was a Junior in High School and he was a bit of a troublemaker (and I loved him for it).

He one day was walking down the hallway and the priest saw him. He asked for a hall pass, but my grandfather didn’t have one.

He isn’t going to take the punishment. Who could blame him?

The priest told my grandfather to assume the position to get hit on the back of the knees.

My grandfather looked him in the eyes and told him that if the priest hit him, he’d hit the priest right back.

Wow, he wasn’t kidding.

My grandfather then assumed the position, and sure enough the priest hit him.

My grandfather they stood up and punched the priest in the face.

And that was the end of his high school career.

He then told the priest he was done and left the school and church forever.

It may not have been a major victory, but I’m sure it felt good.

That type of punishment was common in many schools back then, but it doesn’t make it right. I can’t say that I blame his grandfather for hitting back.

Ouch, this is brutal.

It sounds like he never went back to school.

Grandpa sounds like a great guy.

Wow, he deserved to be suspended.

Corporal punishment used to be popular, but this principal definitely regrets it. Of course, Grandpa as a kid shouldn’t have been getting in trouble at all, but the punishment was extreme.

At least it sounds like his grandfather ended up doing just fine for himself.
