A growing number of schools are implementing no-phone policies, which have been shown to really help the kids with many issues.

What would you do if you brought your phone to school, and when you got caught with it, the teachers took it away? But when you went to get it back, they said that it was broken?

That is what happened to the student in this story, so he told his mother, who said that the school should buy a new one. The student then argued with a teacher about getting a new phone until they gave him a detention.

Personally, while it is clear that the school should have been more careful with the phone, it was not the student’s job to argue with a teacher. Read through the full story below and see how you think it should have been handled.

AMITAH for wanting my school to pay for my new phone?

I live in England and go to a prestigious Catholic school, which has a strict no phone policy.

Not allowing phones in school is a great idea.

You’re not even allowed to have a phone on you, even if your not in school.

I normally go to school with my brother, but my brother was sick and my parents told me to take my phone to school.

They keep it for a week? And break it?

I go to school and get phone searched, they find my phone and take it, telling me to come back in a week and take it from reception.

The next week, I come to collect my phone and the reception lady tells me that my phone is completely broken due to a teacher dropping it “accidentally”.

This is something that should be handled between Mom and the school.

The second I told my mother, she went ballistic, saying that the school better buy me a new phone or she’s sueing.

I tell that to my teacher and she starts yelling, saying that the school does not have the funds to buy me a new phone.

There is no reason to argue with a teacher like this.

I keep demanding a new phone until I get sent to the headteacher.

My parents were called and the teacher suspended me for arguing with a teacher.

AITA?

While the school should have definitely been more careful with the phone, the teacher doesn’t need to have a student arguing with them. This should have been discussed between Mom and the school, not with the student at all.

Many private schools do not have a lot of money.

The phone should have never been at school, but it is the parents’ job to deal with this. This student should know that he should not be arguing with a teacher.

At this point, he needs to take the punishment and move on. His parents need to reach out to the school to figure out what to do about the phone.
