It Was 100.4°F Outside When Her Roommate Left the Windows Open—So She Finally Lost Her Temper

An open window during a hot day

Extreme heat can make sharing a home much harder than usual.

In this story, a woman struggled to cope with a severe heatwave while also caring for her young pet rabbit.

The apartment had already reached 26°C, and she was especially worried because rabbits can struggle with extreme temperatures.

With the weather reaching 38°C outside, she was easily triggered when she saw all the windows in her apartment open.

So she yelled at his roommate for being so irresponsible.

Do you think her reaction was justified? Check out the full details below.

AITA for shouting at my roomate for letting the windows open during a heat wave ?

I (22F) live in a colocation with 2 other persons, who are great high school friends.

Right now, we are having a really bad heatwave.

As I’m speaking, it is 38°C/100.4°F outside.

This woman cannot handle heat very well.

I’m very, very bad at handling heat, and already fainted multiple times over the last few weeks.

The temperature inside of the apartment was 26°C/78.8F at that time.

It should also be noted that I have a 5-month-old pet rabbit that lives cage-free in my room.

Bunnies are, like I, very bad at handling extreme heat.

She got home and rested for a while.

I came back from work this noon.

I ate a bit, spent a bit of time with one of my roomates (22M), then went to shut myself in my room to get some sleep.

I’ve been very adamant on making it as cool as possible.

Curtains are closed 24/7, bare minimum of lights, fan is always on when I’m in, and so on…

When she woke up, she noticed all the windows were open.

2 hours later, I come out of my room to go to the toilets.

And realize my roomates opened every single window on the appartment to create an airflow.

According to him, the appartment was smelling food (I cooked some onions earlier).

I got pretty mad about it, as only hot air was getting in.

But I just told him to close them when it would smell better and went back to rest.

She yelled at her roommate for not closing the windows.

When I came out once more, the windows were still opened, and the temperature outside my room was now 30.6°C/87.08°F.

I got really angry and closed them all down while shouting at him.

He responded that it still smelled food in his room (canned food that was his).

I responded that I didn’t care if he was too lazy to ventilate his room when it was cooler like this night or this morning

Now, she feels pretty bad about it.

I don’t like getting angry, and feel pretty bad about it, but I don’t know if I’m wrong.

He loves when it’s warm/hot, and knows full well I get really weak and just feel terrible when there are high temperatures.

Especially since my work makes me move throughout the city on my bike all day long.

AITA for yelling at him? I kinda fear I went too far, but at the same time I don’t know if this was “far.”

Anything above 28°C/82.4F can be harsh for the rabbits.

Whoa! A heatwave is already miserable, but worrying about a young rabbit makes the situation even more stressful.

It’s understandable that OP wanted the apartment kept at a temperature that was comfortable and safe for both of them.

Hopefully, the roommates can find a solution before the heat becomes even more unbearable.

Finally, short and straightforward.

It’s really hard to think clearly when summer turns the apartment into an oven.
