Hard work should usually lead to better opportunities, not fewer hours.
In this story, an employee works a part-time job and hopes to eventually move up or find something better.
However, his schedule suddenly changed, and he was given 3-hour shifts across the week.
When he asked why, his manager said it was because he completed tasks too quickly.
Whoa! Do you think that’s fair? Check out the full details below.
I’m being punished for being efficient at my job
My job is part time. I could not find anything full time.
I am hoping to work my way up or do this until I find something better.
However, I was getting 30 hours a week.
It was usually a couple of 8-hour shifts. Then, the rest were 4 to 5 hours.
This employee was scheduled to work 3-hour shifts every day.
They have started putting me at around 18 to 21 hours.
They are doing it in an annoying way.
The next two weeks, I have 6 to 7 days working 3-hour shifts.
I asked my manager why. He said it is because I do everything really fast.
He found this really frustrating.
It is irritating.
I go through the trouble of washing my clothes, getting ready, and commuting to work.
So I do not want to constantly do that for 3 hours of work.
It feels super unfair. It makes me wish I put in less effort to take up more time.
Indeed, that’s an annoying situation because being efficient should be rewarded, not turned into an inconvenience.
It makes sense why OP felt like his effort was working against him instead of helping.
At that point, anyone would start questioning whether slowing down would actually benefit them more.

Work too fast, and suddenly, they give you less work.
