She Juggled a Full-Time Job and Pregnancy While Cooking Nightly—Then Her Sister’s Chore Avoidance Broke Her

No one wants to feel like their generosity is being taken for granted.

One woman welcomed her younger sibling into her home a year ago, easing her in gently while she got her first job as a hostess.

Months later, modest rent and a short list of basic chores got added to the arrangement, nothing more than picking up trash, doing her own laundry, and taking her turn on dishes.

Instead of independence, what followed was a steady stream of dirty socks, skipped chores, and constant reminders that never seemed to stick.

Now, 21 weeks pregnant and working full time while still cooking dinner every night, she’s wondering how much more patience she has to give.

Keep reading for the full story.

My (26F) younger sister (19F) doesn’t contribute to the household, and just sits on the couch all day.

My younger sister moved in with me about a year ago, around that same time she got a part time job as a hostess.

Things started off fine at first.

At first I didn’t mind cleaning up after her, as she was just getting her footing in the world with her first job.

About 3-4 months ago I started charging her $250 in rent and giving her more responsibilities around the house.

She really didn’t think she was asking that much from her sister.

All I ask of her is to pick up her dirty clothes from shared spaces, pick up her trash, do her own laundry, and to do the dishes every 3rd day (we rotate between myself, my husband, and her doing the daily dishes).

Her sibling proceeded to not hold up her end of the bargain at all.

I’ve had to remind her constantly to stop leaving her dirty socks in the living room and dirty clothes in the bathroom.

She rarely ever does the dishes when it’s her turn, and if she does, it’s because I nagged her about it.

Now she’s growing tired of their strained relationship.

I’m so tired of having to repeat myself and remind her of her chores 24/7.

It’s to the point where I’m starting to resent her just for being in the same room, and we used to be very close, so it sucks to feel this way.

Her sister doesn’t even really have an excuse as to why she can’t do what’s being asked of her.

She also only works part time, and half the time she gives up her shifts to a coworker, so she’s off 3-4 days in a row sometimes and just sits on the couch the entire time, not even exaggerating.

Now this woman is this close to taking drastic measures.

If you were me, how would you handle this? I’m so close to kicking her out, I don’t want to, but I can’t keep living like this.

I’m 21 weeks pregnant, I work full time, and I cook dinner for the house on a nightly basis.

I’m tired too, dawg, lol.

She’s pregnant for goodness sakes! Help her out, sister!

What did Reddit think?

This user suggests her sibling is only pulling this stunt because this woman allows her to.

This user suggests a gentle but firm way to raise the subject.

Maybe this sibling doesn’t have what it takes to be a real adult.

A firm ultimatum could be effective.

Charging $250 in rent and asking for a few basic chores is pretty much the bare minimum expected of anyone living in a shared space.

It’s clear her sibling has no interest in contributing in any meaningful way here. She’s likely just bumming around to see how much she can get away with.

When you’re 21 weeks pregnant and working full time, you need someone who’s willing to actually pull their weight.

This sister has some major growing up to do.
