Kids often act up in school, which gets them in trouble with the principal as well as the parents.
What would you do if you skipped class and then got in an argument with the principal about it, which got you suspended until your parents came in to talk to him?
That is what happened to the kid in this story, but the school failed to notify the parents, so he just stayed home for four days without any type of punishment. When his parents did finally figure it out, they allowed him to move to a different school.
The school and the parents should have punished this kid more, but it seems to have all worked out in the end. Read through the full story below and see what you think.
Teenage MC
I was enrolled in an all boys high school. Not so bad for a bit; great school culture, community oriented teachers, a real sense of belonging.
There are definitely pros and cons to gender-specific schools.
But no girls and no freedom of movement (no leaving grounds during school day).
This lasted until the summer going into 10th grade, when I realized I missed my friends terribly and also — hormones raging — much rather be in the co-ed school.
Well, he should get in trouble for skipping class.
I hated mandatory french and decided to skip class one day, spending it in the library reading. This was a big problem that landed me in the VP office.
It got loud and he wasn’t the only one yelling. After storming out (poster-child for petulance) and being chased up the stairs, I was told if I didn’t go over to the room across the hall and make up the time/work I missed that I shouldn’t come back without my parents.
The principal definitely should have called the parents right away.
The 4 days where I didn’t go to school, because I didn’t tell my parents, was bliss.
Despite my horrible attitude that year I had previously established trust with many of the teachers (him included) and for some reason he trusted me to do this without contacting home directly.
It all worked out in the end, though.
Then the school called Mom and I got caught. But I never went back there. My parents saw I wasn’t doing well socially and accepted my bid to transfer to the public school attended by all my friends.
I maintained good grades for the year as promised and everyone was happy.
Did his parents not punish him either?
All-in it was a 2 week break from school that I spent playing games, watched crappy daytime TV, and ate junk all day!
Thanks Mr. D!
It seems like both the teachers and the parents failed to punish this kid for his bad behavior, which is why he thinks all of this was a good thing.

I don’t think this is always true. Of course, it is in some cases, though.

How did he not get punished by his parents for skipping class? I’m glad that it worked out in the end for him, but honestly, he was misbehaving and deserved to get in trouble for it.
Most kids who go down a road like this don’t have the same happy ending, so it seems to me that the school and the parents messed up.
