It’s always interesting to hear about the things that certain parents ask their kids to do.

I think people should be willing to go above and beyond when it comes to helping out family members, but you can’t always blame someone, especially a younger person, for not wanting to go along with the program.

In this story, a teenager opened up about why she doesn’t want to honor her father’s request to help out her grandfather.

Read on, and see what you think about her decision.

AITA for telling my dad my grandfather isn’t my responsibility?

“I’m 17F, and I know how horrible this must seem, but let me explain myself.

Recently, in these past few weeks, my grandfather has been staying with my family because of serious health issues. The other day, out of nowhere, my dad called me over and told me I have to take my grandfather to the hospital for a follow up/check up.

I at first honestly believed he was joking, as he has never before told me to do anything like this. I haven’t even been to the doctor’s or the hospital without a parent present yet, so, to say the least, I was a bit surprised by this.

She wasn’t comfortable with this.

I told my dad, sorry, but no, I can’t take him because I have a lot on my plate right now.

Because of certain events that have occurred near my region, my exams were disrupted, and now I have to take last year’s and this year’s final A-level exams in the coming school year, which is my senior year of high school.

This has stressed me beyond measure because I’ve been struggling trying to review this year’s upcoming content as well as revising last year’s.

My dad knows all this and still wants me to apply to university in the US, meaning I will probably have to study and take the SAT next year as well, on top of all my other exams, not to mention finding and applying to universities.

She’s got a lot on her plate!

I’m also juggling all this ALONG with extracurriculars that I have been trying to desperately keep afloat.

However, unfortunately, I feel my dad doesn’t understand how hard this is and wasn’t taking no for an answer, so I blurted out that my grandfather wasn’t my responsibility.

I didn’t mean anything bad by this and still care for my grandfather; I just believe that this is a huge responsibility for someone my age and that something like this should be handled by an adult.

And the only reason why my dad tasked me with this in the first place was that he was busy, as if I’m also not extremely busy.

Well, now my dad is very angry with me for even uttering these words, and I don’t know what to do.”

Well, it’s her call….

Even though a decision like this is bound to make some people upset.

It sounds like she’s standing her ground on this one.

Her dad is asking a lot of her…and she doesn’t think she can do it.
