Parenting responsibilities should ideally be shared between partners.

The following story involves a woman who found herself handling most of the baby care while also working all day, leaving her exhausted.

Although her husband helps with cooking and cleaning, she feels the majority of baby-related tasks fall on her shoulders.

So when he chose to go to sleep instead of helping one night, she continued to feel upset and overwhelmed.

Read the full story below for all the details.

AITA husband went to bed and left me with the baby

Husband helps me with every baby feed. He prepares the food and cleans up the kitchen.

I change the diaper and feed the baby. Normally, my husband stays with me and keeps me company. He talks to the baby before we all go to bed.

However, tonight my husband was really tired. He decided that I had to do everything myself. He said he would go to sleep.

This woman does most of all the baby-related duties despite having to work all day.

Now, I know that probably sounds reasonable, but I work all day. I supervise the baby all day.

My husband doesn’t work at all. He does all the cooking and cleaning.

Most of the baby-related stuff falls to me. I bathe the baby. He at least helps me fill the bathtub.

My husband begrudgingly does one feed while I work. He does it by himself. He leaves me to change the diaper after the feed anyway.

She feels like he doesn’t contribute enough.

It’s not like we didn’t both decide to have a baby. It takes two after all.

It feels like he doesn’t contribute enough.

When I try to talk to him about it, all I get is responses.

“Fine, you do the dishes or laundry and see how long it takes to pile up.” Or “Fine, you take the trash out.”

Now, she’s wondering if her feelings are valid.

But those tasks don’t take all day.

I’m the one putting in all the time and effort.

Am I the jerk for hating that he just went to sleep?

He left all the baby duties with me.

This sounds like a classic imbalance between a husband and wife. And sounds like it’s been building up over time.

It’s understandable for OP to feel frustrated since she carries most of the baby duties, especially on top of working all day.

Perhaps a simple reminder to her husband of his responsibilities would make things better moving forward.

Let’s find out what others have to say about this.
