Are you upset if your partner doesn’t like something you like?
It’s understandable wanting them to like it and wanting to share that interest, but what happens when it hurts?
In this case, a woman shared her favorite anime with her fiancé, but he didn’t like it. She was very upset about it. But here’s the thing: she didn’t like his choice of anime either.
So what now? Is this even about anime?

AITA for being extremely upset that my fiancé doesn’t like my favorite Anime…
I (32 F) and my fiancé (33 M) have been together for 6 years, known each other for 14, both love anime.
We decided to start watching together since I haven’t seen much and he’s seen quite a lot.
He decided we would take turns picking and I agreed.
Recently on my turn I picked an old favorite from when I was in high school, he didn’t like it so I picked something else that neither of us had seen and we both enjoyed it.
The same happened to her.
On his turn he picked a favorite of his.
I didn’t like it but stuck through it till the most recent episode being too scared to say I didn’t like it because of the way I felt when he told me he didn’t like the one before…
My turn comes and I pick my number one favorite because I REALLY wanted him to watch it.
But 4 episodes in (we normally give one we havent seen 5 episodes before deciding) and he says he doesn’t like it…
They have different tastes in anime.
I got extremely upset and just said “ok I’ll find another one” but I didn’t know what to pick since I was so upset, felt like the night was ruined and just thinking about skipping my turn.
Now I feel like a jerk for getting upset about it.
I just felt that since I gave one of his favorites I didn’t like so much time and he wouldn’t give me the same courtesy.
I understand he didn’t like the 1st one since it was an older one but my most recent pick isn’t that old (maybe 2014 or 2015).
AITA?
Forcing someone to like something is weird. What did Reddit think?
Quite immature behavior.
Yup.
Yikes.
Let’s hope so.
If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a sister who let her brother maintain a shared car for years, and doesn’t want to start doing it herself now that he has his own car.
Someone shares their thoughts.
I think four episodes is plenty of something you’re not enjoying; he gave it a good go.
As far as we know, he wasn’t rude about it, and liking different things is normal to happen in any relationship, including with family and friends.
She also didn’t like his anime choices.
Just because she represses her feelings doesn’t mean he has to.
