She Needed the Family Car for Work—So Her Mom Called Her Entitled and Gave It to Her Sister

Sibling rivalry is alive and well, folks…

And this story proves it!

Getting along with brothers and sisters is never easy, is it?

Heck no!

And things can get even more complicated if your parents are piling on, too!

In today’s story, a young woman explained why she’s not really getting along with her mom OR her sister…and it sounds like she’s had just about enough of it.

Take a look, and see what you think.

AITA for being entitled for expecting to drive a car to work?

“My (20F) relationships with my mom and sister (18F) aren’t on the best terms right now largely because I think my sister gets away with too much that negatively affects me and every time I communicate with my mom about it she sides with my sister/thinks I’m partially to blame.

It also doesn’t help that after I came back from school, I see that my sister is now working at the same shop I have been for the previous couple years.

Now to the situation that just happened.

This morning I woke up at 9 to get to work on time at 10. As I post this, my sister’s still at home and it takes 10 mins to drive to work. I was going to take one of my family’s cars to work to be there on time.

Her sister is a SLACKER.

My sister has a history of showing up to work an half hour late to an hour late before.

I told my mom I was going to take the white car but because she needed one she wanted to drive me to work and drop me off with the white car so my sister could drive herself to work in the blue car.

I told her I would like the car to join my friend who’s visiting from out of town at the beach right after work. I also told her how it was unfair that I got up to go to work on time so I deserve to have a car to drive, who my mom could just as easily drop off as well.

This is totally unfair…

My mom called me “entitled” for expecting the car and got angry when I told her I was “suffering the consequences of her (my sister’s) actions.”

My parents hardly ever punish us and only have “talks.” They’ve never told my sister to get to work on time because they believe if our boss had an issue with it, he’ll tell us.

My boss and co-workers make half-jokingly comments at work whenever my sister walks in late, so my sister and parents never see it as an issue.

Although what happened just now seems super petty, a similar situation has occurred before. One example was during winter break where I wanted to sleep at 1 AM in my sister and I’s shared bedroom, but she started studying in bed for a big exam the next day at that time.

This is a bit much…

I asked her to turn the lights off/study downstairs but she refused.

When I told my dad about it he told me to suck it up because my sister “doesn’t normally study and he wants to encourage this.”

Eventually my dad told her to work downstairs after I locked myself in the bathroom and broke down crying from being so tired and feeling unheard and he realized how much it affected me.

She’s open to therapy.

Whenever I try to communicate with my parents it feels like i’m talking to a brick wall.

My parents tell me that I have too many issues/complaints about my sister and tell me that I need to see a therapist (which I’m interested in, but I think I’m also taking the necessary actions now).

AITA?

Maybe I am being entitled and I’m blinded by jealousy by non existent favoritism and just need to suck it up.”

And this reader weighed in.

It seems to me that she’s the only mature person in this household!

What are these folks doing…?

Maybe it’s time for her to branch out on her own and get her own place to live…

It’s pretty obvious who gets the special treatment in this family!
