Some people really point fingers without realizing they’re pointing three at themselves.

In this case, a 24-year-old woman found herself in that situation after admitting that she had taken an online class for her younger brother to help him graduate during a particularly difficult year.

Although she knew it was technically cheating, her brother was struggling after their parents’ ugly divorce and the fallout had seriously affected his grades and friendships.

Everything was fine until her cousin Sarah started loudly condemning OP’s actions despite secretly doing basically the same thing for her own teenage daughter.

AITA for telling the family that my cousin has been taking classes in her daughter’s place?

I (24f) have a younger brother, Joshua (18m). He’s been really struggling this past year as our parents are going through a nasty divorce.

Our dad had an affair with Joshua’s best friend’s mom, so this has broken up his friend group, too.

As a result, his grades are slipping and he’s at risk of not graduating.

Ordinarily, I would never condone cheating, but I agreed to take an online class in his place to help him graduate on time.

It’s for the greater good, we get it.

I don’t feel good about it and I told him he has to take a course on the subject when he goes to college next year, but I just want him to graduate and move out to hopefully get a fresh start.

Meanwhile, my cousin Sarah (34f) has a daughter Shayna (15f), who does high school online.

Sarah admitted to me last year that she actually does assignments and even takes entire online courses in Shayna’s place, because the subjects are things Sarah has decided Shayna doesn’t actually need to know.

The extended family found out about me taking a class for Joshua.

Double standards.

Surprisingly, Sarah has been the most vocal about how wrong it is.

I thought she was being sarcastic at first, but she’s seriously judging me and doesn’t see any irony in it.

I’ve since heard that she’s been talking behind my back about it.

Apparently, I was the only one who knew she regularly did the same for Shayna, so no one called her out.

It was almost like she was trying to divert attention.

We had a big family dinner on Easter, and my uncle asked how Joshua was holding up.

I told him it was really rough between home and school, but he seemed to be doing better lately. Sarah kept trying to **** in, and I tried to ignore her.

Finally, she outright told our uncle that I’m pretending to be Joshua for an online class.

They argued.

I’d had enough, and told her she wasn’t in any position to judge me for it, considering she does the same for Shayna all the time, and Shayna isn’t even going through a rough time.

The rest of the family started asking Sarah if this was true, and to her credit she admitted it was.

Everyone started ganging up on her, asking why she’s been trashing me for doing the same for Joshua.

Sarah was really upset, sat quietly when the rest of us shifted the conversation, and left as soon as dinner was done.

Note: Shayna and Joshua weren’t in the room; the teens and kids were in the family room at the other end of the house.

It became a whole drama.

Sarah’s now texting my mom, calling me a hypocrite for embarrassing her in front of the family for taking classes for Shayna when I’m doing the same for Joshua.

I honestly would have taken her secret to the grave if she hadn’t given me such a hard time.

A couple of our aunts and uncles have said that I shouldn’t have said anything because no one was really taking Sarah’s criticism seriously anyways.

Sarah’s sister is saying I should have talked to her about it in private instead of outing her to the whole family. I feel like I’m in the right, but maybe I should have just ignored her, or at least waited to confront her in private.
