When your kids are in school, going to their concerts is always a highlight of the music classes that they take.
What would you do if your young child was being excluded from the winter school concert because the teacher never communicated the requirements to you?
That is what happened to the family in this story, so Mom is really upset and disappointed, but she doesn’t know what she can do.
Personally, I think she needs to reach out to the teacher to see if anything can be done. Read through the full story below and see what you think.
AIO for being furious that my child was excluded from the school winter concert?
I feel like I’m about to explode. I’m so upset and angry right now.
Well, this isn’t fair.
Today is the school winter concert, and my child is NOT participating. The music teacher told him he will not be going on stage.
Why? Because he doesn’t have a musical instrument. Here’s the thing: we didn’t buy an instrument because the teacher REFUSED to tell us which one to buy.
Why is the instructor not informing parents of what their kids need?
We emailed multiple times asking for clarification, and he said he would only provide that information AFTER the concert 🤯
Then later, the teacher said that kids without instruments would be given simple percussion instruments (like jingle bells, shakers something you just hold and shake).
She has every reason to be upset about this.
Okay, fine. But yesterday my child came home upset and told me: Mom, he didn’t choose me.
He said I won’t be participating. He gave those instruments to other kids. I cannot even describe how angry this makes me.
This really doesn’t make any sense.
What kind of behavior is this from a teacher? How is this acceptable? This is a 5th grader. He came home genuinely sad and told me, “This isn’t fair.”
And he’s right. It ISN’T fair. How do you organize a concert in a way that some children are simply left out? With ZERO communication to the parents?
There is no reason to show up at all.
I received multiple emails and reminders about the winter concert. I even took time off work to attend because this is important for my child.
And now I’m expected to show up to a concert where my child won’t be on stage?
This kid is going to feel left out.
Will he just sit in a classroom or in the audience while everyone else participates?
I’m honestly heartbroken for him and furious at the situation. AIO?
Did she email or call the teacher to figure this out? That should definitely be the first thing that she does.
Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say about this unfortunate situation.
This is how music class would normally work.
Here is a commenter who feels bad for the kid.

Now this would be funny.
This person says that the teacher is a bully.
Mom has every reason to be upset about this, but has she reached out to the teacher? If she has, then she needs to escalate the issue to the principal.
Not letting a kid perform at the concert at that age is not acceptable.
