Sometimes, you don’t even have to say a word to make someone mad.
In today’s story, we’ll meet a cashier who got pulled into an argument without even trying.
It started when a pregnant woman asked her to page the driver of a truck parked so close that she couldn’t get into her car.
The cashier made the announcement, and before long, the two women were arguing while she continued helping customers.
She thought that was the end of it until the driver came back to complain to the manager.
Read on to see what happened next.
“The cashier is conspiring against me!”
I was working the cash desk when a very pregnant lady came through the doors.
Pregnant Lady: Hi, can I ask you a weird favor? There’s a white Dodge Ram in front of the store parked very close to my car. I can’t get into my car. Do you have some kind of paging system or something?
Our store does have a microphone at the cash desk that we generally use for making closing announcements.
She paged the Dodge Ram owner.
I hop on that mic and say, “Can the driver of a white Dodge Ram please come to the front of the store? Thank you.”
Within a couple of minutes, a woman with her daughter shows up at the cash desk. This woman, who we’ll call Dodge Ram Lady, had a confused look on her face, and she was looking through the front doors to see if something had happened to her car.
At this point, I was ringing through a customer, so I wasn’t completely paying attention to the exchange between Pregnant Lady and Dodge Ram Lady. However, my ears perked up when I heard Pregnant Lady say to my customer, “She can’t seriously be arguing with me.”
Once she sees the woman reenter the store, she assumes everything is good.
From the bits and pieces of the conversation I was able to catch afterward, Dodge Ram Lady didn’t want to move her car because there were no other parking spots available, she’s with her daughter, etc.
Pregnant Lady points out that there are four empty handicap parking spots next to Dodge Ram Lady’s car, that she can look after her daughter while she moves her car, and that she just wants to get into her car and go home.
Eventually, Dodge Ram Lady comes back into the store and continues shopping, and Pregnant Lady leaves, so I’m guessing she moved her car and everything got resolved.
NOPE.
Fast forward to when Dodge Ram Lady comes to the cash desk to pay for her things.
Suddenly, the Dodge Ram Lady wanted to speak to the manager.
Dodge Ram Lady: Is there a manager around? I would like to file a complaint.
Oh boy.
Manager (who so happened to be right behind me at that moment): I’m just with a customer right now. I’ll be back to talk to you as soon as I’m done with them.
And so, as my manager is finishing up with her other customer, I ring through Dodge Ram Lady, inform her that she has enough loyalty points to get a discount on her purchase, bag up her goods with a smile, etc., etc., all that good, friendly cashier stuff.
At this point, the manager pulled her to the side.
After her transaction, my manager takes her aside to listen to her complaint, and I’m thinking to myself: what’s she going to complain about? How small our parking spots are? How I shouldn’t have pulled her away from her shopping? How we shouldn’t allow pregnant women to shop at our store?
Eventually, Dodge Ram Lady leaves, and my manager pulls me aside.
Manager: The customer was complaining that you took the other lady’s side.
Me: WHAT?!
Confused, she explained that she never even said a word to the lady.
Manager: She said that she doesn’t appreciate that you agreed with the other lady and that you should have been more neutral.
Me: All I did was call her to the front of the store. Other than that, I said NOTHING. Was it the way I called her to the cash desk?
Manager: No, she said the way you called her up was fine, but she perceived that you were on the other lady’s side.
Me: But I didn’t SAY anything.
Manager: She implied that it wasn’t something you said, but something you did. Maybe you nodded or something.
Luckily, the manager believed her.
Me: WHAT?!!
Manager: Also, she said that after today she won’t ever be shopping here again because of how you treated her.
Luckily, my manager knows me well enough and has talked to enough psycho customers to trust my side of the story. We laughed about all the crazy customers we’ve had lately, and then she went off to do her manager thing.
Later, I was talking to a coworker about what happened.
Coworker: Yeah, I was on my break when it happened. Outside the store, I totally heard Dodge Ram Lady tell Pregnant Lady to go herself.
Wow! You’d think a woman who’s a mother would be more understanding.
Let’s see how the readers over at Reddit feel about this whole thing.
Here’s what this person boils it down to.
That’s funny.
This reader has some strong feelings.

You would think.
Some people really can turn nothing into something.
The cashier barely said anything, so accusing her of taking sides makes no sense.
You’d also think she would’ve shown a little more consideration for someone who was very pregnant and just trying to get into her car.
At least the manager seemed to understand what really happened and didn’t hold the complaint against the cashier.
