It’s great to help family out when you can afford to do it, but what if you can’t afford to?

What would you do if a family member asked to borrow money, but you didn’t have any extra money for them to borrow? Would you be willing to take out a loan or beg your friends to let you borrow money just so you could turn around and lend it to your family?

In this story, a couple is arguing about this exact situation. The husband’s parents are begging him to loan them money, but the wife knows they can’t afford to loan them money.

AITA for not sending the money??

So, husband’s parents asked him to borrow $2k and we don’t have that kind of money to loan out.

So I told him I’m not comfortable with that.

And he tells me he wasn’t asking me for permission he was “telling me” he needs to give his parent a the money.

We had a minor argument as to where he’s gonna get the money.

Her husband finally saw her perspective, but not for long.

He agrees and lets his parents know we can’t help.

His dad, then tells him to go get a loan(this is where it gets intense).

He asks me how to take out a loan.

And I tell him how and ask him why.

He said, to give his parents the money.

He didn’t listen to her.

I again tell him it’s irresponsible to loan money we DO NOT HAVE!

But he doesn’t seem to care and tried to take out the loan.

He gets denied.

We took it as “God’s will” to worry about OUR family and not HIS parents.

Yikes! Her father-in-law is being awfully pushy.

He tells his parents he got denied.

And the dad persists and keeps asking to try this and try that, try another bank, try asking friends, take out a credit card and send it to us. Allllll the ways he could think of.

This trip they took was strictly for pleasure btw.

They got in another argument.

He manages to accumulate $500(borrowed) and asks me to send it VIA moneygram.

I refuse and he BLOWS UP on me telling me I’m useless and selfish POS and “I’m gonna remember this” and that I’m getting upset over money.

It’s not the money part I’m upset about. It’s the fact his parents took a trip they COULD NOT afford FOR FUN, and then call him to ask for money like it’s nothing. Then continues to ask him when he can’t help them.

I absolutely refuse to help them. If he wants to send money he can do it himself.

They really shouldn’t be borrowing money.

We are struggling to pay bills as is and Christmas is LITERALLY a few days away and we haven’t gotten our children anything cause we don’t have the MONEY to BUT he can borrow money to send to his selfish parents.

I told him his parents were selfish and manipulative trying to get money and he’s mad.

All this bs because he wants to “help” his parents when we are struggling to survive.

Idk what to do but I know I’m not gonna send it for him.

Why can’t her father-in-law ask someone else for a loan? Is his only option really his broke son?

Her husband is not thinking clearly. He’s too caught up in his parents’ drama. It’s nice that he wants to help them, but it’s not nice that he’s willing to loan them money when it causes him to get into debt.

He needs to put his wife and kids first. His parents need to back off.
