He’s Always the One Who Decides — So When His Friend Wouldn’t Pick Game or Show, He Snapped

Always being the one who has to make every decision can get old fast.

One person has reached that point with a longtime friend who struggles to choose even between two basic options.

While hanging out, they asked whether the friend wanted to keep playing a game or switch to a show they had been watching.

After a long day, they really didn’t want to be the one deciding again.

But the friend kept saying either option was fine, which only made the whole thing more frustrating.

AITA for raising my voice at my friend is so indecisive?

I have a longtime friend called “Sam.” For as long as I have known Sam, they have been awful at making decisions, even about the simplest things. Playing something like “Would You Rather?” would honestly result in no answers.

Onto the actual concern. We were hanging out, playing a game, and I had previously suggested that we continue a series we’ve been watching together. We finished the match and were in the lobby, waiting.

I asked them what they would rather do (keep playing the game or switch to our show), and I said I wasn’t feeling like deciding because I am always the one picking what we’re going to do.

Finally, Sam made a decision.

Sam stammers back and forth, saying they don’t care which one we do.

I tell them to just pick one because I don’t feel like making a decision, that I’ve had a long day and would rather just not be the one to make choices today.

They kept saying, “I don’t care which one we do, it’s 50/50,” so I tell them to just pick then.

To just pick one of the two since they’re so even. They finally make a choice after about 5 minutes of me asking them to pick and say, “I guess I leaned one way more than the other, even if just a little.”

Apparently, it’s always been like this.

I basically have to pull teeth to get an answer out of them because they just “don’t have an opinion” on what we do. I had to insist, raising my voice a little, asking them to just pick something, that it isn’t that hard to make ONE choice every once in a while, and that I would like to not be the one to pick for once.

It’s so tiring always being the one to make choices. I always have to figure out what we will do and when we will do it, and it’s been that way for the last 2 years I’ve known Sam.

I tell them that I would like to just go a day without having to be the one to make all the choices, and they say that they’ve been getting better, actually making decisions more often, to which I said, “Yeah, after I have to pester you to make a choice over and over.”

AITA?

Oh no! That does get frustrating, but people can have worse habits.

Let’s see how the readers over at Reddit suggest he handle it.

This person feels his pain.

According to this comment, they’re both wrong.

Good point.

He should think about this.

Neither one of them handled this particularly well.

It makes sense that constantly being the decision-maker would get tiring, but snapping at Sam only made things more tense.

Sam also needs to realize that always saying “I don’t care” still leaves the other person carrying the choice.

They both need to change something if they don’t want this same argument happening again.
