A Cashier Told Him the Store Doesn’t Take Apple Pay — He Insisted She Didn’t Know What She Was Talking About

Some customers seem convinced they know a store’s policies better than people who actually use them every day.

One home improvement store cashier dealt with that when a customer asked whether the register accepted Apple Pay.

She told him it didn’t, but he insisted that he had used it there before.

Then, rather than taking her word for it, he tried the payment several times while the register kept rejecting it.

Read on to see how it all played out.

Cashiers Don’t Know Anything About Their Pin Pads: the Apple Pay Fanatic

I’m a cashier at $Home Improvement store. Up until a few weeks ago, when our entire system crashed, our pin pads would accept Samsung Pay. However, they have never accepted Apple Pay.

I was cashiering out in garden the summer before last. I had only been at this store for a few months at this point, but I definitely knew that we accepted Samsung Pay, but Apple Pay was a no-go.

A guy (Apple Pay Lover, or APL) comes up to my register, and I get him rung up.

Even though she told him they don’t accept Apple Pay, he still had to try on his own.

APL: “Do you guys accept Apple Pay?”

Me: “No, we don’t, sorry.”

APL: “Well, it’s always worked for me before!”

He promptly holds his phone over the pin pad. An error-like message comes up on my register, basically saying that it can’t read the card number and the card needs to be re-swiped.

After trying five times, the guy finally gave up.

Me: “We don’t have either Apple Pay or Samsung Pay.”

APL: “Yes, you do! Why isn’t it working?!”

I think he must have tried it at least five different times, with me trying to get it through his head that we don’t freaking have Apple Pay, and him insisting that we do and I don’t know what I’m talking about.

Finally, he accepts that it’s not working and just uses a debit card or something. I can’t remember now, and he went on his merry way.

Eek. It sounds like he was confusing their store with another one.

Let’s see how the readers over at Reddit would’ve handled him.

This person doesn’t like dumb questions.

Or, better yet, there needs to be a more universal pin pad design.

That’s basically how the guy acted.

This reader thinks he may have gotten stores confused.

You can understand why someone would prefer to use Apple Pay, especially since it offers more protection than using a physical debit card.

But once the cashier tells you the store doesn’t accept it, repeatedly trying the same thing isn’t going to change that.

The customer probably thought he knew better because he had used it somewhere before.

Still, the cashier works with that register every day, so maybe it would’ve been easier to just take her word for it.
