It is never fun when a friend makes fun of you or tries to embarrass you in front of other people.

What would you do if your best friend began teasing you and making fun of you in front of your girlfriend even though you were always nice to him?

That is what happened to the guy in this story, so when he had finally had enough, he blew up at the friend and listed everything that is wrong with him in front of everyone. Now they aren’t talking, but his girlfriend thinks he should apologize.

Personally, I think that if he wants the friendship to recover, he needs to apologize and talk things out. If not, he can just leave that person in the past. Read through the full story and see what you think he should do.

AITA for calling my(26M) “best friend”(26M) a loser after he tried to embarass me in front of our GFs?

Context~ I have a best friend who I’ve known since childhood. We grew up together, went to the same schools, parties, church, extra curriculars, etc.

Sounds like a great friend.

I met the female versions of myself and my best friend 3 years ago (Both of them are 26F). I introduced the other one to my buddy and we have both been in very happy relationships with our respective GFs.

We literally did everything together, double dates, hanging out, playing video games all together, going to do fun couple shit, etc etc etc.

Everything started off so well.

Things started falling apart when my gf and I moved out to our apartment downtown.

Things were great in the beginning, they’d come over every weekend and we’d drink and watch movies together.

He is likely trying to make himself look good at this person’s expense.

But slowly, I’m not even really sure why- He just started becoming aggressive with me? Like for example, I am addicted to this one video game. I probably have like 3000 hours in the game, and when I’m not working or doing something with my gf I’ll probably be playing that game.

The next time we all hopped on said game he made fun of me for having no life and still being bad at the game. It wasn’t just us in the call, a bunch of our friends and both our GFs were in there.

He is just being mean at this point.

I laughed it off the first few times, but it started spreading into other things like- I am a pretty lanky dude I will be honest. I am not particularly big, my best friend is. He constantly tries to belittle me in group settings by squeezing my biceps.

Progressively these types of things got worse until finally we both exploded, and I called out every single one of his flaws.

Why not just talk to the guy first?

The fact he has no job and has had no desire to look for one in all the years we’ve been out of school. The fact that he most definitely has at least the same amount of hours in the same video game I play + all the others that he plays.

The fact that I introduced him to his now GF and milks her of all her money yet still chose to attack me after every time I’ve held my tongue and put his feelings first.

It is unlikely that their friendship will recover.

We havent talked since, his GF called me and apologized on his behalf. It made me even angrier that he didnt have the balls to call me himself.

She begged me to talk to him and apologize because our situations are different because I am “kicking him while hes down.”

Does he value the friendship?

I told her that he can come talk to me face to face and then maybe we can discuss this.

My GF is also asking me to just talk to him to keep the peace.

If he wants the friendship to recover, he needs to talk to him.

Idk what to do. Im really conflicteed. He really tried to hurt me even though all I’ve ever done is be there for him.

I get that you dont fight fire with fire but I was mad.

AITA?

While his friend was definitely in the wrong for what he did, blowing up at him like this wasn’t the right move. He should have talked to him about it first.

Let’s see what the people in the comments have to say about the situation.

This person sums it up nicely.

His friend may be jealous of him.

The guy does sound very insecure.

Here is someone who thinks his girlfriend was calling him a loser.

If you enjoyed this story, check out this post about a woman who is annoyed that her brother is making their mom’s international trip all about how broke he is.

This person thinks he did the right thing.

His friend is obviously in the wrong, but that doesn’t mean he should have blown up like this. Of course, he has no obligation to keep this friendship, but he really should have just talked to the guy about the situation.

Why not explain that his insults are mean and that you don’t like it? If he continued, then you could call him out in front of everyone.
