It’s never a good idea to loan money to a friend or family member or anyone else for that matter if you actually need the money and want it back. Chances are, you’ll never get the money back, and it will forever ruin the relationship.

Only loan money if you think of it as a gift. If the person you loaned it to actually pays you back, consider that a bonus not something to expect.

In this story, one man learned that lesson the hard way, so now, he refuses to loan anyone money, even his mother-in-law. Was that the wrong thing to do?

AITA for never loaning money?

When i started working after college i made the mistake to loan 500$ to a friend.

Sufice to say, i never saw that money again. Lesson learned.

From that on i never loaned money again. I may give the money if i trust somoene enought and is a value i can aford to lose, but loaning never.

His ex-mother-in-law asked for a loan.

Two years ago my ex-MIL asked for loan. She had fallen for a MLM scam and lod al,ost everything. She asked me for 50.000$ for help her to go trough rent, groceries and utilities for a fell months,just enough so she can get back at her feets.

I refused, beaused till that day she hated my guts and was rude to me.

Also that was a big value that i could not aford to lose, since the money would come out of all my found (emergence, fun and retirement).

Saying “no” caused a lot of drama.

When a said no she went ballistic.

My GF went crazy and for a fell weeks she gave the cold shoulder and said that if i didn’t loan the money so we should break up.

So we break up.

All my friends were devided because, on oe hand is a bis sum of money, but on the other hand because of money i ended a relationship of 1.5 years, so AITA?

His ex-MIL asked a question, and he gave an answer. “No” is an answer. If she doesn’t like the answer, that’s her problem. It’s a good thing his girlfriend broke up with him if she was that upset at him about saying “no” to loaning her mom money.
