I’ve had a couple of experiences in my life when the big boss asked employees to give them the straight dope about what we weren’t happy with as far as how the business ran…
And let’s just say that, even though they asked for honest feedback, they didn’t like what they heard from us.
Then what’s the point of asking in the first place?!?!
In today’s story, a worker was brutally honest during his annual review…and now he thinks it might be time to head out the door.
Let’s take a look at what he had to say.
Had my annual 1-to-1 today…time to start job hunting?
“Today was our annual 1-to-1 with management, where we’re encouraged to be completely honest about how things are going.
So I was absolutely honest, and I believe I wasn’t the only one.
He let ’em have it!
I spoke about the negative atmosphere that’s developed over the last year, the constant blame culture, departments being pitted against each other instead of working together, people refusing to do certain parts of their role because it’s “not their job”, and the complete lack of communication and respect between some colleagues.
It genuinely feels like everyone is pulling in different directions rather than towards the same goal.
Other people raised almost exactly the same issues in their own meetings, or so I am led to believe.
The same concerns and same frustrations seemed to have been raised from a few of us but with how my office is at the moment I genuinely don’t know who the snakes are and they could all be lying.
This is never a good thing…
I think its become painfully obvious that morale is at an absolute rock bottom.
I left feeling optimistic that they listened but let’s be honest they didn’t care, or if they did they wont do anything about it any time soon. honestly though hearing that everyone is saying the same things just reinforced how widespread the problems are.
It feels like there’s a growing divide between management, who seem convinced things aren’t that bad, and the people actually doing the work every day who are becoming increasingly frustrated and burnt out.
They have good reason to feel burnt out.
To top it all off, our yearly pay increase was 2%.
Meanwhile, due to the ridiculous demands of the data center boom the workload keeps increasing, expectations keep rising, responsibilities keep getting added, and we’re constantly expected to do more with less.
Every year the targets get higher, the pressure increases, and somehow we’re expected to be grateful for a pay rise that doesn’t even come close to reflecting what’s being asked of us or the cost of living.
I also know how much profit our work makes as do a lot of people on my team, and 2% is an absolute joke by the way, our work is doing almost 3 million a month profit consistently.
Who knows how the bigwigs will handle this…
I left that meeting with the feeling that management got exactly what they asked for, honest feedback, but whether they’ll actually listen to any of it is another matter entirely.
Right now the gap between management and the staff has never been bigger, and I’m struggling to see things improving.
That’s probably why I came home and immediately started thinking about updating my CV.
The only problem is the grass going to be greener elsewhere or am I going to end up swapping garbage, for something just as or a little bit less garbage?”

And another individual spoke up.
Well, that was interesting.
And it sounds like the management at his company don’t really want the truth…
Because they can’t handle the truth!
It sounds like this guy needs to find a new job IMMEDIATELY.
