Nothing tests a friendship quite like two important days landing on the exact same date.
One woman discovered that firsthand when her best friend’s wedding turned out to fall directly on her 30th birthday, a milestone she’d already spent months planning around.
She brought it up gently, expecting a simple conversation about scheduling, but her friend’s response quickly turned into pressure to just reschedule her own celebration instead.
Her friend accused her of making the wedding all about herself, and now their mutual friends are piling on with the same opinion.
You’ll want to keep reading for this one.
AITA for not wanting to go to my friend’s wedding because she scheduled it on my birthday?
My friend Rachel is getting married next year.
She just sent out save-the-dates. Her wedding is on my birthday.
So she immediately lets her friend know — and her friend seems apologetic at first.
I texted her and said, “Hey, did you realize that’s my birthday?”
She said, “Oh my god, I didn’t even think about that. I’m so sorry.”
She’s very upfront about her intentions for her birthday, which leads some entitlement to start creeping in on her friend’s part.
I said, “It’s okay. But I don’t think I can come. It’s my 30th birthday and I had plans.”
She said, “Can’t you celebrate your birthday another day? This is my wedding.”
I said, “I’ve been planning my 30th for months. It’s a big deal to me.”
Now things between them are super tense.
She got upset and said I was making her wedding about me.
Now she’s not talking to me, and our friends are saying I should just suck it up.
AITA?
Sounds like this story was never going to have a happy ending.
Reddit had some pretty mixed feedback about this one.
A milestone birthday is nothing to skimp out on.
This user basically says, “who cares — we’re adults.”
Ultimately, it’s not an easy choice, but she still gets the final say.

Reddit split hard on this one, and that tells you everything you need to know about how messy this situation really was.
Half the comments think refusing to attend automatically counts as making it about her, while the other half point out that declining an invitation was never actually a demand for anything.
Rachel didn’t do anything wrong by picking that date months in advance, and her friend didn’t do anything wrong by already having plans locked in for a milestone birthday.
There’s only so much time in the day, so scheduling conflicts like these are bound to happen.
