Living with someone can test even the most patient people, especially when chores become a one-sided arrangement.
One woman found herself increasingly frustrated with her slobbish roommate’s habits, from trash that consistently piled up unless she handled it herself, to dishes left sitting in their small shared sink for weeks at a time.
The mess extended into her roommate’s own room, which had grown so cluttered that even basic cleaning felt impossible for her to manage.
Fed up with the pattern, she decided against sharing toilet paper altogether, fully expecting her roommate to forget restocking it and leave her covering the cost anyway.
Things got more complicated once her roommate, who happens to be best friends with her sister, started reporting every household disagreement straight to her, turning simple complaints into a two-against-one dynamic.

roommate never cleans
I wanna start off by saying that I like my roommate as a person, but this is genuinely getting on my nerves.
She begins to air her many grievances with her roomie.
She never takes out the trash (which fills up every 2-3 days because we both use it), and when she finally does, once in a blue moon, she always texts me about it as if she wants me to pat her head for doing it.
I am also yet to see her vacuum and mop the floors. She never does it in the shared space because there is so much mess in her room that she can barely see the floor, hence why she doesn’t clean it, lol.
The mess is also quite prevalent in the kitchen.
She also leaves her dishes in the sink for weeks. Our kitchen is tiny, so it bothers me heavily when it’s all occupied with her mess.
We don’t even share toilet paper because she is just unreliable in this way, and I know that if it were her turn, she would just forget to buy it and I’d end up buying it all the time.
Their social dynamic further complicates things.
My roommate is best friends with my sister and always snitches on me when there is a household issue, and my sister always takes her side. She recently told me I’m insane for not wanting to share toilet paper and insinuated I’m a terrible roommate for that.
All of this is really starting to wear on her.
But it genuinely makes me anxious having to rely on unreliable people with crucial things like toilet paper, trash, dishes. What do I do?
Anytime I raise a concern to her, she immediately tells my sister, and they talk crap about me until my sister finally scolds me.
This sounds like such a headache.
What did Reddit have to say?
If her sister is going to be involved, she might as well know the whole story.
This house needs more accountability.

She needs to get tough with this roomie.
Roommate compatibility is a real thing.
Wanting a roommate to actually contribute to shared responsibilities should be just the basic expectation of living with someone else.
The toilet paper was never really the actual issue here, the issue is that every single disagreement gets funneled straight through a sister who wasn’t even in the room when any of it happened.
Every time she raises a legitimate concern about chores or supplies, it gets reframed as a personality flaw instead of a reasonable request.
At the end of the day, maybe these two roomies just aren’t right for each other.
