Keeping your word with your partner is an important part of any healthy relationship.
In this story, a woman regularly plans trips and outings with her boyfriend.
He initially agrees, but eventually backs out and gives different excuses, mostly about work.
When she tried to finally buy tickets for the new plans, he backed out again because something else came up.
Ugh! Don’t you find this annoying? Check out the full details below.
AITA for blowing up on my partner for bailing/being too busy for trips I get excited about?
AITA for getting upset with my boyfriend because he keeps backing out of plans after saying yes?
I’m starting to wonder if I’m being unreasonable here.
I feel like whenever I make plans with my boyfriend, ask him to go somewhere with me, or suggest we do something together, he’ll initially say yes.
But then, once I actually go to confirm things or buy tickets/book an Airbnb, suddenly, it becomes “maybe” or he can’t go.
This woman planned a trip for her and her boyfriend, but he canceled at the last minute,
A few months ago, we were supposed to take a trip together.
He ended up cancelling because a better work opportunity came up.
I understood that, even though I was obviously disappointed.
To make it up to me, he suggested that we go out of state for a show of one of my favorite artists.
This week, I brought it up because I wanted to actually buy the tickets and make the plans.
He said “maybe,” and then ultimately told me he couldn’t go because another work/hobby opportunity came up that he would rather do.
She blew up and snapped at him.
I honestly blew up.
Not necessarily because he couldn’t go, but because I feel like my disappointment never gets acknowledged.
It feels like I’m constantly getting excited about plans with him.
Only for them to disappear once I try to actually make them happen.
I told him that the repeated cancellations are starting to affect how I feel about making plans with him.
At this point, I’ve started planning more things with my friends because I feel like I can’t really rely on him to commit to something until it actually happens.
She understands the importance of his work, but she thinks he’s not prioritizing her.
I don’t want to prevent him from taking work opportunities or doing his hobbies, and I understand that things come up.
But if you repeatedly say yes to plans with your partner and then change your mind when something “better” comes along, is it unreasonable for your partner to eventually feel like they’re not a priority?
I also recognize that I probably shouldn’t have blown up.
But I was frustrated because this feels like a pattern rather than one isolated cancellation.
AITA for getting upset and starting to make plans with my friends instead because I don’t feel like I can rely on him?
Yikes! That sounds really selfish and hurtful.
One cancellation is understandable, but repeatedly agreeing to plans and then canceling them can really feel disrespectful.
I’m on OP’s side here. It seems reasonable for her to make more plans with friends rather than constantly getting excited about plans that might never happen.

Consider breaking up with him, says this user.
Finally, short and simple.
Saying yes to plans means nothing if you keep changing your mind later.
